TSU Population Pyramid Study Project

Description

Utilizing the census data I need pyramids created for the following data. Age and Sex (Black or African American Alone), Age and Sex (White Alone, Non-Hispanic), and Age and Sex (Hispanic Alone) for Davidson County, Tennessee utilizing the 2021: ACS 5-Year Estimates Detailed Table with the five year age groups combined to create ten year age groups. The data is then aggregated and saved to Excel to create the pyramids. Instructions from the school website is listed below.

INSTRUCTIONS

Population Pyramid Assignment

For this assignment, choose a county anywhere in the USA that has at least 250,000 residents. You are expected to create a population pyramid for each of the following racial/ethnic groups:

Hispanic

African American

White

Step 1: Use Census Data (https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ )to download the most recent population data (2021) by “age and sex” for each racial/ethnic group. Then you need to aggregate the data and save it in Excel.

Step 2: Write up your analysis of the data for each group. Each pyramid should include a title (e.g., above the figure you could center Figure 1: Population Pyramid, Davidson County, TN 2021). The source should go at the bottom, left justified and in slightly smaller font (usually 10 point).

In the write up, focus solely on each pyramid and the patterns in the data. You could create separate sections in the report:

Introduction (explain what you’re going to do and its significance, if any)

Hispanic Population

African American Population

White Population

Conclusion & Implications
Step 3: Write a conclusion section that explains the implications of the data. That is, now you can discuss social implications of the data when it comes to the greater workforce, school system, social system, political system, etc.
