The type of learning environment that needs to be created so there is no divide between leadership and faculty is a learner-focused and centered environment. The facilitators or “leaders” and other support personnel are utilized as resources for the learners instead of teachers (Vartiainen, 2014). He recognized that in this environment, the leaders support the learners by building pathways for the learners, providing a creative and engaging community, and creating an active learning space. The facilitators or leaders can take on various roles, collaborate, and share decisions, which structures the environment as a fluid with the shift in roles and duties to make the most impact on learners (Collinson et al., 2006). Using an environment that has fluid movement allows the organization to grow. It will create challenges and learning opportunities for all members. A shared and fluid environment would help eliminate the them-versus-us mentality and focus on collaboration.
