Description
The Assignment:
Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.
Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
Include one slide that visually represents the role of a nurse leader as knowledge worker.
- Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses (feedback not available)
- Scenario (originally shared)
- Mr. B, a 55-year-old male patient, visits the clinic with a chief complaint of cough and high fever. He states the problem started a few days ago and has been using over-the-counter ibuprofen to suppress the discomfort. During the assessment, the nurse gathered that Mr. B had visited the facility the previous year with the same problem. The medical records show that the patient has a history of pneumonia. The nurse also collected and recorded vital signs, including temperature, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
- In this case, the nurse must analyze the patient’s symptoms and medical history to obtain an accurate diagnosis. The data can be collected through one-on-one interviews with the patient. This approach requires the nurse to ask questions about the health condition to obtain subjective data. Similarly, physical examination helps to collect objective data, including vital signs and laboratory results. The nurse informatics specialist can also access the electronic medical record (EMR) to acquire medical information about the patient (Nagle et al., 2017). The collected data assists in establishing the current medication, existing allergies, and medical history. Notably, the data analysis will help in deriving the diagnosis and developing appropriate treatment for the patient.
