Music has a way of effecting emotions and touching the soul. Most events that draw people together involve music in some way shape or form.
Throughout history, music has been a reflection of society and culture. Music is used to celebrate, music is used to express disillusionment and just about everything in between. Music often reflects the events of the time, and has been used as a catalyst for change.
Music is a form of entertainment, and is frequently used to raise awareness to problems in the world and inspire people to find solutions. Music has a way of effecting emotions and touching the soul. Most events that draw people together involve music in some way shape or form. For this reflection, research songs past or present, that have been written and preformed to address a particular issue or societal conflict. For example, the civil rights movement Aids Epidemic, war, poverty, power or imbalance of power etc.
Select a song of particular interest to you and share why you chose the song. Study and research the meaning behind the lyrics from the songwriter and performers view.
Write a reflection on the message, viewpoint, or lesson the song was conveying. If the song was from the past, does the song still have relevance today? If it is a current song, do you think it will have relevance in the future?
