Companies now-a-days primarily work off of servers and networks. Unless a business is ran by a 7-year-old that is selling lemonade on the side of the road and with no type of computer programs to help them sell this lemonade then most likely computers and servers will be involved. Keeping these devices, programs and servers are crucial because ultimately it help prevents third-party attackers from gaining access. Some of the other benefits of an organization to keep their updates and patches up-to-date would productivity, the longevity of the the device itself, and meeting the regulations and laws that are set to standard (Intel, n.d.).
When a company does not keep up-to-date on the patches or updates than the software starts to not work properly thus allowing the productivity to plummet. This makes it more and more challenging for the employees to complete their daily work tasks. Over time the lifecycle set on these devices will reduce and more repairs or even replacements will need to done by the organization. Lastly, if they are not up-to-date then federal or even local regulations are being violated due to Personal Identifiable Information data could be obtained which then violates HIPAA laws and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
There are various reasons and issues that occur and one of the best ones is that it is too time consuming which leads to desirability of not wanting to deploy all the patches that are available. The patches that are available could potentially lead to patch failures due to the amount of time it takes and whether or not it was tested in the test environment.
