Description
- Part 1: Pathophysiology Section
- Pick a diagnosis from the list below or another diagnosis approved by your instructor. REMEMBER: Your instructor must approve your topic for this assignment for the semester. Do not start working on topic that you have not received approval on or it very well could be a waste of time and effort.
- Learn all you can about the diagnosis and disease process to base your assessment on.
- Write a minimum 250-word APA paper about the disease process or disability you have chosen. Do no plagiarize and do not use the same content used here for your Part 3 of the assignment. This is a pathophysiology background of the disorder/condition that has been approved. Using a peer reviewed and reliable source for references. Additionally, link the pathophysiology to what you observed in your patient in a sentence or two in this section
- This must be written in APA 7th edition formatting (which includes a title page and a references page see Canvas for resources)
Part 2: Pediatric Assessment portion (using provided template)
- Using the nursing process and critical thinking you will create a patient to do an assessment (unless you have a live patient to assess), on and complete the forms attached. Do an assessment filling in the form based on what you might find abnormal in your patient who has the disease you have written about
- Fill out the attached assessment portion of attached template based on a child with your diagnosis of choice. Here you want to make it evident that you are aware of what you would anticipate seeing while assessing a pediatric patient with the selected condition. Additionally, the assessment includes components on recognizing growth and development as well as cognitive and psychosocial development that would be expected for the age child that is chosen.
- Two nursing diagnoses are identified that are appropriate for the condition and as what is evident in the nursing assessment. These two are written per NANDA with the r/t and AEB criteria using an appropriate nursing diagnosis.
Part 3: Educational Component
This part is about education of the patient, parent, or staff you would be working with in a pediatric unit or another pediatric setting.
You have the choice to pick only ONE of the following formats (handout, brochure, or PPT presentation) for the nurses or a patient teaching plan for parents.
- Make sure that you are demonstrating knowledge of the disorder, identifying factors that should be taught to the population you are addressing (parent or pediatric staff nurses or non-nurses). Students, this needs to reflect effort and time on your part; meaning there needs to be some creativity involved. Do not submit an assignment which is essentially copied information from a website or other credible source and claim this as your educational component. This is plagiarism, even if the source is cited, you must adapt the educational component to fit the needs of your patient and family and reflect your understanding of the education required and demonstrate original work.. This component needs to reflect that is specific for the condition, the population being addressed and the specific information that needs to be provided.
For instance, perhaps it is the medications involved in this illness/condition that needs to be the focus of the education; maybe it is the condition itself? Perhaps it is the diet the child needs to follow or maybe it is diet and medications and the condition. There should be images and maybe diagrams as well as ensuring that the language is at a reading level appropriate for the population the education is focused on (this will differ for parents versus fellow nurses). See the examples that have been provided from previous students to get an idea of the expectation
REMEMBER: This assignment is worth 6% of your overall non KGA grade which is a significant portion, and it is expected that students put the time and effort into completing this assignment in a fashion that reflects that percentage of the grade. A simple coping and pasting to Parts 2 & 3 will not meet the expectations of this assignment.
Make sure you cover all the points listed on the Rubric for this project.
