Overview

Let’s get to know each other! Sometimes being in an online class can feel impersonal. In this class, you will be interacting with each other in discussions so it is fun to learn a little bit about each other. This discussion forum is offered to encourage you to get to know your peers in this course and share your current thoughts about taking online courses.

First, pick your favorite color from the list below then answer the questions in purple font.

• Now, answer the question that corresponds to the color you chose. Please be detailed:

Red is a strong color that is often used excite or warn people. How does red excite you?

• Orange is the motivation color – what motivates you?

Yellow is the inspiration or creativity color – what was the best idea you have ever had?

• Green is the money color – what is the dumbest thing you ever did with money?

Blue is the sky’s the limit color – what is your favorite daydream about your future?

• Indigo is an odd, or different color – what is the most daring thing you ever did?

Purple is the color of royalty – if you were ruler of the universe for a day – what is the first thing you would do?

Example of a response that received credit:

1. I chose the color red; it has been my favorite color since I can remember.
2. Red excites me in clothing, especially in dresses or clothing that I find personally attractive. I also find it attractive in lipstick since red can be considered as one of the colors that attracts the human eye. I would say that a combination of someone dancing to a hip-hop/rap/pop song using something with the color red would excite me/attract me (I love to dance so that’s the reason). Lastly it excites me when I see it on certain food, in this case pizza. 

My results showed that overall I am 43% extroverted and 57% introverted and I have high emotional intelligence, organizational skills, and creativity. I am surprised by the creativity trait as I do not consider myself very creative. This may be because I correlate creativity with artistic ability (which I lack), but need to consider how I may be creative in other ways. I agree with the other two high traits- I am extremely organized and feel I have a high level of emotional intelligence. I can empathize with others and often have friends coming to me for my perspective.

My favorite color is blue. My favorite daydream about my future would be becoming a cowboys cheerleader while also being a part-time accountant. I like online courses because it gives me a chance to take responsibility and teaches me how to manage my time.

To form an argument on whether psychology is a science.

How  have your lived experiences- such as where you grew up and with whom and your cultural values shaped your views of psychology? Please provide specific personal examples and elaborate on how these experiences have influenced your understanding of psychology.
