I am finishing my BSN, in Nursing and have to create a portfolio. 

Assignment:

Based on what you have accomplished in your journey as a nursing student, create a comprehensive portfolio to present to potential employers. Be sure to include the following, at a minimum (along with any other pertinent documents that are specific to your experience):

• Cover Letter
  1. Addressed to potential employer
  2. Qualifications
  3. Opening and closing statements
• Goals Statement
  1. Future education goals
  2. Potential future opportunities
  3. Areas of interest
• 1 professional references (can be from employers, instructors, mentors)  (this can be made up for the sake of the assignment)( background I am a CNA at a level 1 trauma center at a orthopedic unit so the reference could be from an RN)
• Answer the following questions in essay format (essay from the students perspective, this not apart of the professional reference):  
  • Have you ever dealt with a situation in which a patient or family of the patient was unhappy with your care? If so, describe it, and if not, describe how you think you would handle that situation.
  • Describe what cultural competency means to you.
  • Explain a situation where you made a mistake. How did you fix it? What would you do differently in the future?
  • Where do you see yourself professionally and academically in the next five years?
  • Explain an experience you’ve had where you’ve “made a patient’s day.”
  • Describe a time during nursing school in which you wanted to quit or second guessed your career path to become an RN.
  • How do you handle frustration in the workplace?  
  • How would you handle witnessing a fellow nurse doing something wrong such as stealing, lying, cheating, breaking policy, or putting a patient at risk?   
  • Describe the strengths you’ve developed as a nurse.
  • Explain the weaknesses you still have going into clinical practice.
