Students should use these instructions to document to format their assignment. Instructions will be in bold. Share the questions in your paper numbered and in bold. Student responses should be in regular, 12 point font.

How is development studied?

Guided by goals of description, prediction, explanation, and optimization as discussed in our text, the scientific method involves testing hypotheses derived from a theory by conducting research with a sample (ideally random) representative of a larger population of interest.
